Mykonos Airport Arrival Booking
Mykonos airport is four kilometres from Chora and about the size of a large bus station. Flights from Athens take thirty-five minutes. Together those two facts produce something you do not see in most destinations: a large number of bookings made for the day of arrival, often for the same evening, sometimes from the aircraft.
This page covers how arrival-day bookings work, what timings are realistic, and where the season changes the answer. It is written for adults arranging a legal booking with another adult.
The one number worth remembering is ninety minutes. That is the realistic gap between an aircraft touching down and a booking beginning, once you have cleared the terminal, reached your accommodation, checked in and had a moment to yourself. In May with hand luggage it can be an hour. In August with a full flight and a queue for a taxi it can be two. Planning around ninety minutes rather than around your landing time is what separates an arrival evening that works from one that does not.
The second thing worth knowing is that arrival day in August is the single most constrained booking window on the island, because everyone arrives on the same days of the week. If your travel dates are fixed and fall in the peak, book before you fly.
Booking for your arrival day
Mykonos airport in context
It is a small airport with a single terminal. In the shoulder season you are outside within ten minutes of landing. In August, with several aircraft on the ground at once, the baggage hall backs up and it can take considerably longer. Both are normal; the difference is worth planning around.
Travel time to the main areas
Chora and Ornos, five to ten minutes. Platis Gialos and Psarou, ten to fifteen. Ano Mera, fifteen to twenty. The east coast around Kalafatis and Kalo Livadi, twenty-five to thirty-five. Add ten minutes to all of these in August.
Why arrival-day bookings are common
Because the island is small, the transfers are short, and most people arrive in the afternoon with the whole evening ahead of them. Arrival day is not a wasted day on Mykonos in the way it is somewhere with a two-hour transfer.
Timing around your flight
Give us your landing time
Tell us when the aircraft is scheduled to land and we will work forwards from there. That is a more reliable input than a time you have estimated, which is almost always optimistic.
Baggage and transfer
Shoulder season with hand luggage, allow fifteen minutes from landing to being in a vehicle. August with checked baggage, allow forty. Then add the transfer time to your area and the time to check in and get to your room.
Realistic first-evening timings
For an afternoon landing, an evening booking from about eight is comfortable. For an evening landing, later the same night is realistic if you are staying near town, and a next-morning start is more sensible if you are on the east coast.
Delays and cancellations
Mykonos flights are delayed regularly in high season and occasionally cancelled when the meltemi is strong enough to close the runway to smaller aircraft. Tell us as soon as you know and we will move the window where the schedule allows.

At your hotel once checked in
The most common arrangement. Give us the hotel name and, once you have it, the room number.

Not at the airport itself
The airport is a small public terminal and not a venue. Bookings take place at your accommodation. This is worth stating plainly because the terminal is small enough that people occasionally suggest meeting there to save time, and it is not something we will arrange under any circumstances.
Arriving in high season
August traffic on the airport road
The road between the airport, Chora and the south-coast bays is the busiest on the island and in August it is slow between roughly five and eight in the evening. A transfer that takes eight minutes in May can take twenty-five then.
Transfer availability
Taxis are scarce — there are only a few dozen on the whole island. If you have not pre-booked a transfer and you land at seven in the evening in August, the wait can be substantial. Pre-booking your transfer is the single best thing you can do for your arrival day, quite apart from anything else.
Booking before you land
Recommended in high season. Availability in the peak weeks is genuinely constrained and the difference between booking from the departure lounge in Athens and booking after you have checked in is often the difference between a real choice and none.

Standard hourly
Published rates apply, from around 120 to 150 euro per hour in the shoulder season, higher in the peak weeks.

Travel supplements by area
None for Chora and the near bays; a moderate supplement for Ano Mera and the interior; the largest for the east coast. Always quoted before you commit.
Departure day
The mirror image of arrival, and it catches people out more often, because a departure has a hard deadline where an arrival does not.
Working back from your flight
Mykonos airport asks for check-in well ahead of departure and the terminal is small enough that queues build quickly in August. Work backwards: departure time, minus check-in, minus the transfer, minus a margin. What is left is your real availability.
Morning departures
An overnight booking ending in the morning fits a midday flight comfortably and is the most common departure-day arrangement. It also removes any question of transport at four in the morning.
Late departures
An evening flight leaves the whole day free, and a daytime booking on departure day is entirely practical if your accommodation allows a late checkout. If it does not, that is a genuine constraint worth raising when you book.
Multi-day visits
Booking across several days
If you are on the island for a week, arranging bookings across the stay in one conversation is easier than repeating the process each evening, and in peak weeks it is the only reliable way to get the companion you want on the nights you want.
Deposits

Plans change on holiday and we expect that. Dates can be moved where the schedule allows; what we ask is notice rather than certainty.
Common questions
Can I book before I land?
Yes, and in high season you should. Message us with your landing time and your accommodation area and we will hold a window.
How far is the airport from Chora?
About four kilometres — five to ten minutes outside peak traffic, up to twenty in August.
What if my flight is delayed?
Tell us as soon as you know. We will move the window where the companion’s schedule allows. Delays are routine here and we plan for them.
Can we meet at the airport?
No. The terminal is small and entirely public. Bookings take place at your accommodation.
How soon after landing can you arrive?
Realistically, allow about ninety minutes from landing to the start of a booking: baggage, transfer, check-in and a moment to settle. Less in the shoulder season, more in August.
Is there an arrival-day supplement?
