Two bays, one road
Ornos is the closer of the two to Chora, sitting on the narrow neck of the island where it is only a couple of kilometres from the north coast. Platis Gialos is further east along the south coast. Both are reached from the same main road out of Chora, which is why they behave as a pair.
Travel times from Chora and the airport
Ornos is eight to fifteen minutes from Chora and five to ten from the airport, making it the best-connected part of the island. Platis Gialos is twelve to twenty from Chora and ten to fifteen from the airport. Add ten minutes to any of those in August.

Restaurants and bars line the beach and stay busy into the evening. It is a comfortable place to begin an evening, and considerably easier to park at than Chora.
Access and parking
The roads in Ornos are paved and reasonably wide by Mykonos standards. Parking is difficult but not impossible in August. If you are in one of the hillside villas, the usual pinned-location guidance applies.
Platis Gialos
The hotel belt
Platis Gialos has the largest concentration of hotel rooms on the island, running the length of the beach and back up the slope behind it. Beach clubs and the boat pier
The beach is lined with organised clubs, and the pier at the eastern end is where the caiques leave for Paradise, Paraga, Agrari and Elia. If you are staying here and spending your day at another beach, that pier is how you get there — and it is worth knowing that the last boat back is earlier than most people expect.
Onward boats to the southern beaches
The boat service is seasonal and weather-dependent. In a strong meltemi it stops, which occasionally strands people at beaches with poor road access. If your booking depends on getting back from one of those, allow for it.

Both are on the main bus routes from Fabrika in Chora, running frequently in season until late. This matters if you are planning an evening in town and want to get back.
Parking
