An overnight booking is the arrangement most people on Mykonos end up wanting once they have spent a couple of days here, and it is worth understanding before you arrive rather than working it out at two in the morning. The island is small, but it is not quick to cross, and it empties of transport at precisely the hour when an hourly booking would be ending. Overnight sidesteps that entirely.

What an overnight booking covers
The start
Overnight normally begins somewhere between ten in the evening and midnight. That is later than most visitors expect and it is deliberate: dinner on this island rarely finishes before half past ten, and a booking that starts at nine means one of you sitting around waiting. If you want the evening to begin earlier, say so and we will price it as an extended booking that rolls into the overnight.
The end
It runs to the following morning, in practice somewhere between eight and eleven, agreed in advance rather than left open. Naming the end time when you book matters more than it sounds, because it determines whether a companion can accept another engagement the next day and it stops the morning becoming an awkward negotiation.
What it is not
It is not a twenty-four hour arrangement, and it is not an open-ended stay. If you want a full day and the following night, that is a different booking with different pricing, and it is available — it simply needs arranging as such rather than being extended in stages.
Why overnight fits this island in particular
The transport collapse after two
Mykonos has a famously small taxi fleet for the number of people it hosts. From roughly two in the morning the practical reality is that a vehicle is very difficult to obtain, and the buses have long stopped. An hourly booking ending at half past one leaves someone standing on a road in the dark waiting for something that may not come. Overnight removes that problem rather than managing it, which is covered in more detail on our transport page.
Distances that do not look like distances
On a map the island looks trivially small. In practice a property beyond Kalafatis is forty minutes from Chora in August, and the road is unlit for most of it. Paying for two return journeys in one night is poor value against a single arrival and a morning departure.
The island runs late
Everything here is shifted three or four hours later than a mainland European city. People eat at eleven, go out at one, and come home when it is getting light. An arrangement built around a two-hour window in the middle of that does not fit the rhythm of the place.
Where an overnight works best
Private villas
The most comfortable option by some margin. There is no reception, no lift and no corridor, the morning has no checkout attached to it, and the property is usually yours alone. Access needs sorting at booking time — gate codes and a pinned location — and that is set out on our villa outcall page.
Hotels in and around Chora
Perfectly workable and often the simplest thing, particularly in town where distances are short. Larger hotels are the easiest of all, because a guest returning late with company is entirely unremarkable in a building with two hundred rooms. Aboard a berthed vessel
Possible, and pleasant when the boat is tied up at the marina with a passerelle down. It becomes a genuine commitment when the vessel is at anchor, because a tender is then the only way off until morning and nobody can change their mind at three. How it is priced
One figure rather than a multiple
Overnight is quoted as a single sum, not as an hourly rate times the number of hours involved. That is the whole point of it. Against eight or nine consecutive hourly hours it is substantially better value, and the gap widens the longer the booking runs.
How the season moves it
The figure is at its lowest in May, early June and late September, climbs through July, and peaks across the first three weeks of August. The movement is real but it is not dramatic, and it is smaller in proportional terms than the swing on hourly bookings. Travel supplements
A supplement applies to properties away from Chora and the Ornos belt, scaling with distance out towards Ano Mera and the east coast. On an overnight it is charged once rather than per journey, which is another reason the arithmetic favours it. It is always quoted before you commit.
Deposits
For overnight dates in the peak August weeks we may ask for a deposit to hold the booking. That is not a general policy, it applies to the handful of dates where demand genuinely exceeds supply, and you will be told at the time rather than discovering it later.

What to tell us about the property
The area, a pinned map location if it is a villa, whether there is a gate and how it opens, and whether anyone else will be in the building. None of this changes the booking; all of it changes how smoothly the arrival goes.
Sleep is part of it
An overnight includes sleeping, and it is worth saying that plainly because people occasionally assume otherwise. It is an arrangement that runs through the night, not a continuous one. If that is not what you are after, an extended hourly booking is the better fit and costs less.
The morning
Breakfast, if you want it, is easiest at a villa and perfectly possible at a hotel. Departure is arranged for the time agreed at booking. Mornings here are genuinely the best part of the day and the least busy, which is worth knowing when you pick the end time.
Discretion through the night
Staff and other guests
Villa housekeepers often arrive early, and shared villas have people moving around from seven. Tell us who else is likely to be in the property and at what time; it does not complicate anything, it just lets the morning be handled with a bit of thought.
Leaving in daylight
A morning departure is more visible than a late-night arrival, which is the one genuine trade-off of an overnight. In a large hotel it is invisible. At a small property it is worth agreeing a time rather than leaving it to chance.
